Huawei is securing trademark in different countries for their own OS

A recent report indicates that Huawei shipped over 1 Million devices to test Hongmeng OS. The Chinese tech giant also files a request from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to trademark Hongmeng OS in different countries including Australia, Canada, Cambodia, the European Union, Indonesia, India, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, and Thailand.

The new OS will have its own pre-installed App Gallery store which is similar to Google’s Play Store. In our experience using the Huawei App Gallery, the content is not (yet) as immense compared to Play Store but some of the most essential apps are already there.

Building a new OS takes a lot of time, engineering, and marketing efforts. It might open a new opportunity to some, but for now, nobody knows what will be the direct long-term effect in the future of smartphones, or should I say… Android market.
